PC remote access is an ingenious invention that allows you to access any PC remotely. In simple terms it "clones" your computer that might be in a different country and you can work on and use it as if you were actually sitting in front of it. The uses for this technology is immense and not only can it save companies millions of dollars in IT costs but even for the home user it has some very clever uses.
Remote PC access works on a very simple basis. The software consists of 2 components. The first is the client and the second is the host. From the host computer you can access any computer with the client software installed on it. The level of access off course depends on the setup but with a standard installation you can access the remote PC and use it like you would as if you were sitting in front of it. Not only can you access your email, copy and past but you can actually use the applications and software on that computer.
Suppose you work in the city and you use very specific software at your job you can use PC remote access to use your laptop to work from home – and work on it as if you were in the office. You can even access the network, use the printers and send emails internally.
IT companies are already using this with great success. Instead of sending out individual consultants to fix issues "on site" you can simply install the software on client PC and have IT support access it remotely from a central office. You can just imagine how that can save on IT costs!
So, where do you get remote PC access software and how much does it cost? Well, there are a number of free options and Windows Live now has its own version built in but it does have certain limitations. For home use its perfectly adequate. For professional use you will have to look into something a bit more sophisticated. My PC Anywhere and Log Me In are the two most popular options and licenses start at about $25.
Whats great about the paid versions is that it comes with a lot of security and support and if you need a customizable option then this is it. Be careful with free versions because there is always the possibility that your privacy can be breached.
